Do you use film or digital?

I have long been a proponent of film cameras; starting out with 35mm in the late 80s and moving all the way up to top-of-the-line medium format cameras in early 2000. But as high-end digital cameras became better and better, and just recently equivalent to film, I realized it was time to move into the digital domain.

Interestingly enough, though, I was having lunch with a group of fellow 'digital' photographers recently and I was surprised to hear as they discussed their workflow that many of my colleagues had to color-correct all their images after each event. I was amazed. I don't have to do that - I never color-correct an image.

I attribute this to the fact that I have shot thousands of rolls of film. (40+ weddings per year, 8 rolls of film per wedding, 8 years of shooting weddings = 2500+ rolls of film.)

From the very beginning the fundamental aspects of photography and film and lighting were burned into my brain. After all, with film we didn't see the results of our work for weeks until digital arrived on the scene. And delivering photographs after weeks of waiting that needed color correction to brides and grooms was a one-way ticket home.

I create matrimonial masterpieces that are both artistic and technically perfect. My colors are always spot on because of my intimate knowledge of film and lighting - and in wedding photography, the colors have to be spot on! So not only do I not have to color-correct, I do not have to pay someone to do that for me.

Extremely skilled photographers get better results with digital without adjusting the raw image. Hobbyists usually get better prints from digital only after altering the images in PhotoShop, etc. The bad news is though; each time an image is 'adjusted' or 'altered' it loses a generation in quality. Blow such an image up to 24x30 or even 11x14, and it looks like, well, an amateur took it.

I love photography, not PhotoShop.

When will my proofs be ready?

I know that brides and grooms are anxious to see the photographs from the most special day of their life. This is why I provide my free online, easy-to-use online wedding album for you and your guests to view your wedding pictures. Within one week after your wedding, I post your photos, including the Photobooth shots, into your private online wedding album for your online viewing enjoyment.

If you choose to get an album of your proofs, the album and CD will be ready in 4 weeks. If you do not receive an album, you will receive your CD within one week of your wedding.

I live in Dayton, Ohio, do you shoot weddings up here?

Yes. I shoot weddings within a two-hour radius of Cincinnati. This includes Dayton, Columbus, Louisville and Lexington. Beyond two hours, I am available to shoot anywhere in the United States as well as internationally. Please call or e-mail me with additional questions or to schedule an appointment.

* Engagement photo sessions are limited to the Cincinnati metro area.

My sister doesn't have any pictures of her wedding reception because the photographer's flash blew up just as the couple was making their grand entrance. Do you have backup equipment?

Because I make my living shooting weddings almost every weekend, I believe in the words, "You're only as good as your equipment". As such I rely on the very finest camera gear available. I spare no expense on my cameras and lenses because only the finest equipment allows me to capture the feelings that fill your day.

I have two of EVERYTHING - including two flashes. When I purchase a camera, I buy two. A new flash, I buy two. That means that all my gear is identical. Many wedding photographers have nice primary gear, but their back-up equipment is old, out-dated stuff. If something goes wrong, they're fumbling around trying to figure out how to get the old stuff working while you look on.

Because I earn my living as a full-time professional wedding photographer, if any piece of my equipment fails, my assistant simply walks over and hands me another camera/flash/lens or whatever, and it's absolutely identical to what I was just using. This allows me to move on with your wedding as if nothing has happened at all.

Expect nothing less.

Will you go to multiple locations?

Yes, I enjoy going to different locations such as parks so that you have a nice variety of photographs in your wedding album.

Do you shoot in black and white?

Yes. Any image can be turned into black and white. Additionally, retouching, cropping and artistic enhancements are available on Any/All of your images. Click here for Details.
